slayer1.jpg
Slayer and Megadeth team up for KBPI's Midwinter Melee on Monday, January 25 at DU's Magness Arena. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 20 at 10 a.m. On the decidedly less brutal end of the spectrum, John Mayer visits the Pepsi Center on Tuesday, March 23 in support of his of latest effort, Battle Studies, which was released this week. King Khan & BBQ Show's tour manager arrested, shows canceled

khanbbq2story.jpg
UPDATE: The show has officially been canceled. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.

Our fellows in St. Louis at A to Z, the Riverfront Times music blog, are reporting that the notoriously wild garage rockers King Khan and BBQ Show were a no-show for their nearly sold-out performance there the other night. It turns out the band was delayed, perhaps indefinitely, when their tour manager/driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and possession of a controlled substance (unspecified which controlled substance...) in the tiny, where-the-fuck-is-that town of Oak Grove, Kentucky.

While neither of the band members (Arish Khan or Mark Sultan) were arrested, they have canceled tonight's show in Lawrence, Kansas. No word yet on Saturday's show here in Denver at the Bluebird, so keep your fingers crossed -- maybe they can pull off some crazy, Cannonball Run kind of shit and make it here in time... We'll update if/when we get official word either way and you can get additional details on the whole mess at the Riverfront Times' blog about it.

This Just In: Voodoo Glow Skulls show tonight at Moe's canceled

1102_voodoo.jpg
Bad news for those hoping to catch Voodoo Glow Skulls tonight at Moe's Original Bar B Que: We just heard that the band has had to cancel due to problems the singer is having with his voice. No word yet on when/if the Glow Skulls will make-up the date. In the meantime, local openers Potato Pirates and Allout Helter are trying to land another band on the bill to play are playing the gig as scheduled, only the show has been moved to Locals Barbershop on 5th and Lincoln. The show is free, all ages and the PBR will reportedly be flowing. We'll keep you posted if we hear anything about a new date for the Glow Skulls. This must just be the season for cancellations and postponements. Must be something in the air.

Train/Uncle Kracker show tonight postponed

1030_kracker2.jpg
Looks like the inclement weather we've been experiencing for the last 72-hours has forced yet another show to be postponed. As such, Train and Uncle Kracker fans expecting to see those two acts at the Ogden Theatre tonight don't have much to, uh, smile about right now. Evidently the roadways into Denver from Salt Lake City, where the group was slated to play last night, still aren't that passable. On the brightside, there's still tons going on tonight to entertain you and the temperature and conditions have taken a turn away from suicide weather. What's more, the show has been rescheduled for Tuesday, December 8, and refunds are available at point of purchase if the new date doesn't work for you. Hopefully that's enough to turn your frown upside down.

Goodie Mob's show at the Gothic postponed

goodiemob.jpg
We just go word from Live Nation that Goodie Mob's show originally scheduled for tonight at the Gothic Theatre has been postponed due to weather. A rescheduled date for the Atlanta-based hip-hop group will be announced shortly.

This Just In: Combichrist show tonight canceled

1028_combichrist.jpg

Didn't see this coming, particularly with all of the school closures and snarled roadways: We've just learned that tonight's scheduled Combichrist show at Cervantes' has been canceled. Snow, evidently, isn't a friend to the band, which was presumably trying to make its way to the Mile High City from Salt Lake, where it played last night. No word yet on whether or not the show will be rescheduled or how this will affect ticket holders, but we'll definitely keep you posted as we hear more.

This Just In: U2, Taylor Swift, Bruce Hornsby shows announced

u2_horizonpr.jpg

U2's 360° Tour skips comes to Denver

Update: Just received word that U2 will be bringing its 360° tour to Denver on Saturday, June 12, at Invesco Field. Oh happy day! No word yet on when tickets will go on sale, but they Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 6, and will reportedly range from $55 to $250 online at the Invesco Field box-office and at all TicketMaster outlets.

[posted: 07.02.09] Since issuing No Line On the Horizon, its latest and most relevant piece work in sometime, U2 has been working closely with architect Mark Fisher designing and constructing an elaborate staging set up for its upcoming tour. The ground-breaking design emphasizes unobstructed sight lines ensuring that every seat in the house has a great view. From the digital model on the act's website, the 360 degree design is pretty impressive. Unfortunately, though, for Denverites, unless you make your way to Norman, Oklahoma, Phoenix, Arizona, or Las Vegas in mid-October, the digital simulation is as close as you'll get. According to a Live Nation source, the 360° tour, which kicked off this past Tuesday in Barcelona, will not be making its way to Denver this year. No word yet on whether another leg will be announced next year. See full list of tour dates after the jump.

This Just In: The Damned cancels tour, including Bluebird date

1020_damned.jpg

We'll update you as more information becomes available. Damnit, man!

This just in: tonight's Brand New/Manchester Orchestra show at the Fillmore postponed

1008_manchester.jpg

Update: Manchester Orchestra is playing on Friday night at Club 156 in Boulder. Andy Hull's solo project, Right Away, Great Captain is slated to open. Tonight will mark the first time the two have performed together.

Bad news for those expecting to see Manchester Orchestra, the subject of this week's feature profile, who were slated to warm up for Brand New this evening at the Fillmore with the Builders & the Butchers. We just received word from the folks at Live Nation that the show has been postponed due to illness. Although a make-up date hasn't been announced, the show will reportedly be rescheduled, so those holding tickets should continue holding them, because they will be honored at the future date. And fans of the Builders & the Butchers are in for a treat. Word has it the band will be joining Ivory Drive, the Build-Up and the Soft for a set at the Meadowlark. This Just In: Drag the River with Slim Cessna's Auto Club. Talk about a great double-bill!

1001_drag.JPG
Aaron Thackeray

Update: Drag just added another show at the Triple Nickle in Colorado Springs (JJ Nobody's place) on Thursday, October 8. This one appears to be without Slim Cessna, though.

This one has all the makings of a Mile High classic. Two stellar bands, each a headliner on its own, on the same stage, on the same night! Drag the River has just announced two back-to-back theater shows with Slim Cessna's Auto Club. The first one's slated for Friday, October 9, at the Oriental Theater, followed by a date at the Aggie Theater in Fort Collins the next night, Saturday, October 10. With all the energy being put towards their individual solo efforts, the release of Jon Snodgrass's Visitor's Band this past January and the impending release of Chad Price's Smile Sweet Face, it's been a hot minute since Drag the River has played a full band show locally. That in itself, as you know, is more than worth the price of admission. But then add the patented hellfire and brimstone of Slim Cessna's Auto Club -- playing these two shows and another date at Bender's on Halloween before its annual New Year's Eve extravaganza at the Bluebird -- now, that's what we're talking about, brother and sisters! It's a high time for lowlifes. Can we get an amen?

Kanye West, John Fogerty, Reverend Horton Heat shows announced

kanye-lady-gaga.jpg

Tickets for that one are $35-$65 and go on sale Saturday, October 3 at 10 a.m. Finally, Reverend Horton Heat is set to play a total of ten Colorado dates, including stints at the Ogden Theatre (January 14), Boulder Theater (January 15) and Aggie Theatre (January 16), in support Laughin' & Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat, released this month on Yep Roc. For a complete list of the most recent shows that have been announced, the ones that are about to go on sale or are already on sale, follow the jump.

Fiery Furnaces, Nitzer Ebb, 3OH!3 shows announced

fieryfurnaces2.jpg
This week wasn't quite as insane with show announcements as last week, but we did still get the line on a fair amount of decent gigs. The Fiery Furnaces, touring in support of its eighth album, I'm Going Away, will stop at the Bluebird Theater on Tuesday, November 24. Tickets are $15.25 in advance and $18 at the door. Nitzer Ebb, who did a reunion tour of sorts a few years ago and have a new album in the works, hits the Bluebird on Wednesday, November 25. Tickets for that one are $20.25 in advance and $25 day of show. As a testament to how big 3OH!3 has gotten over the last few years, the duo will headline the Fillmore Auditorium December 19. Tickets are $21. Tickets for each of these shows go on sale Friday, September 25 at 10 a.m. We also just word that Perez Hilton's tour with Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, Ladyhawke and Semi Precious Weapons Friday, September 25 will be a free show. For a complete list of the most recent shows that have been announced, the ones that are about to go on sale or are already on sale, follow the jump.

Pixies bringing Doolittle tour to Denver in November

0728_pixies.jpg

Update: Just received word that the Pixies added a second show on Tuesday, November 17 at the Fillmore. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, September 26 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased directly at the Fillmore box office, online at LiveNation.com or by phone at 1-877-598-6659.

[original post: 07/28/09] It's true. Mark your calendars: We just received word that the Pixies, one of the world's greatest bands, will return to Denver to perform Doolittle, its classic 1989 platter, in its entirety on Monday, November 16 at the Fillmore. Although Black Francis (aka Frank Black, aka Charles Thompson) is due in town tomorrow night at the Walnut Room -- a rarity in itself; Black Francis played Red Rocks this time last year -- if memory serves, the Pixies haven't been here for a minute. Aside from a recent Netflix screening of loudQUIETloud, we haven't seen or even really thought of the band really in at least six years, when the act played at Magness in October 2004. Should be amazing. And lucky us! We're one of only nine cities where the tour will be stopping. Tickets for the show go on sale on Saturday, September 12. See full dates after the jump.

This Just In: Railroad Earth to play a three-night stand in Boulder

0918_railroad-earth.jpg

Coming off a pretty impressive summer of high profile Colorado appearances, including a return to Telluride Bluegrass Festival, a packed tent at Mile High Music Festival and a stop at Red Rocks with the Allman Brothers, acoustic jam band Railroad Earth could almost call Colorado their second home. Add in another set of dates, a just announced three night stand at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Thursday, November 19 through Saturday, November 21. "We're doing it as a thank you to the Boulder area" says the band's manager. Judging from Railroad Earth's explosive growth in popularity here, this is likely the last chance the band's fans will get to see the band perform at such a small venue.

Steely Dan, Mark Knopfler, Rob Zombie, Puscifer shows announced

steely-dan.jpg
It's been an insanely busy week of concert announcements that run the gamut from King Kahn & BBQ Show and Melt-Banana, Wolfmother and Ghostland Observatory to Stone Temple Pilots, Insane Clown Posse and Kevin Smith (yep, Silent Bob himself will speak). Steely Dan fans might get a bit giddy to hear that Donald Fagan, Walter Becker and company will play the landmark album Aja in its entirety when they visit the Wells Fargo Theatre Thursday, October 29 as part of their Rent Party '09 Tour. Reserved tickets run $39.50 to $124.50 and go on sale Saturday, September 19 at 10 a.m. While it's still a ways off (like eight months), tickets ($50.50-$90.50) for Mark Knopler's Tuesday, April 20 show at the Temple Buell Theatre go on sale Friday, September 18 at 10 a.m. The former Dire Straits frontman will be touring in support of his sixth solo album, Get Lucky, which hits the streets today.

Pretty Lights at City Hall this Sunday

0723_pretty-lights2.jpg
Tobin Voggesser
Just heard that Pretty Lights, the burgeoning superstar otherwise known as Derek Vincent Smith, is slated to perform this Sunday, August 23, at the newly minted City Hall. Without question, this will be this weekend's hottest ticket. Oh and speaking of tickets, they're on sale right now for a measly twelve bucks -- and that's including the service charge! Anyone care to make a wager how quickly this one's going to sell out? Probably by the time I finish writing this. Be there or be talked about, as the cool kids say. To get a taste of what's in store, check out some clips of Pretty Lights performing after the jump.

Wendy Woo reschedules CD release party
