Categories: This Just In

Tonight, Thursday, August 5, Quixote's True Blue -- that's the place to be if you love local hip-hop. Presented by Yoseph of Fly Magazine, Dent and Shedrick Garrett, #COHIPHOP Unity Concert 2 is going down. The aim, as you've probably deduced from the name of the event, is to bring the hip-hop community together. To that end, organizers have tapped some national cats Master Fuol and J Stalin to perform alongside a stellar cast of locals, including Young Doe, The Pirate Signal, The Fresh Breath Committee, Adam Duncan and SP Double, among others. Turf DJ Ktone will be behind the decks, and just in case that's not enough, there's also a beats battle on tap pitting TC Crook against Graffiti Black and Yonnas of The Pirate Signal versus Lenny Lenn. See full size flier after the jump.

Categories: This Just In

Oh, man, it's about to get all sorts of dumb over at Gallery 22 on Saturday afternoons. Just heard that the Radio Bums crew is taking over the patio from 1-6 p.m. for The Radio Bums Hangout. If the flier is to be believed the Bums will be throwing down "old school hip-hop, mash-ups, Top 40 and whatever else you ask for!" Speaking from experience -- having "hung out" with these hooligans in the past at their record pool every other Saturday for a number of years -- I can tell you, you can also expect plenty of clowning, general tomfoolery and jokes aplenty. See full-sized flier after the jump and listen to a special mix from El Jefe himself, DJ Chonz, after the jump.

UPDATE: Full schedule and map have been released and added after the jump.

If you ever needed an excuse to head north to Fort Collins besides the many fine breweries there, how about the Bohemian Nights at New West Fest? The free, three day festival is bringing in an eclectic batch of talent, starting with Flobots August 20. They'll be followed by Earth, Wind & Fire August 21 and Earl Scruggs August 22.

Alongside that interesting cast of headliners, more than fifty local acts have just been announced. That cast includes Westword favorites such as Nathaniel Rateliff, Paperbird, Ian Cooke, Matt Morris, Drag the River, the Heyday, Snake Rattle Rattle Snake and way too many more to mention. Considering the cost -- free, remember? -- it sounds like a trip to the Fort is in the cards for the end of the summer. See the full lineup after the jump.

Tryst Lounge is back by popular demand. So long, Dive On Fifteenth

Categories: This Just In

Tryst2.jpg
In April, Tryst owner Paul Piciocchi closed Tryst for a week, did some remodeling and opened Dive on Fifteenth in its place. Turns out that a lot of people who had been coming to Tryst since it opened six years ago, wanted their old spot back. So Piciocchi's giving the people what they want by bringing back the Tryst name, but keeping the face lift. The club now has new nights, new promoters, new DJs and more.

To kick things off, you can drink free (well, wine, domestics) tonight, July 23 from 5 p.m. to midnight by going to the club's Facebook page, clicking the "Like" button and they'll add you to the VIP list.

Heaven Fest quickly growing into a destination festival

Sort of hard to imagine, but Heaven Fest is expected to draw even more people this year

Way back in 2008, when we first spoke to Luke Bodley about Heaven Fest, the annual Christian music festival he produces was in its infancy. Bodley confided to us that he had difficulty convincing acts to perform at the inagural event. Jeremy Camp and Skillet were his headliners that first year. And even getting them took some effort and the co-sign of the Christian Festival Organization (Cornerstone, Creation, Spirit West).

For their fourth studio effort I Learned the Hard Way, released on Daptone in April, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings recorded on an eight-track tape machine, which lends the disc an analog warmth that perfectly matches their '60s-infused soul and funk. Armed with a batch of new songs and a solid back catalog, the always relentless Jones and company hit the Ogden Theatre Tuesday, September 28. Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, who released their third album in June, open the show. Tickets ($30.50-$35) go on sale Monday, July 26 at 10 a.m.
