Hint: It's this guy.
America. Who doesn't love it? No one, that's who, because America is fucking awesome. But who loves it most? There's a real question.

And today we have the answer, thanks to this stirring, utterly patriotic power ballad we discovered via a YouTube search for "worst music video ever." So that's two things this guy is tops at...

The weird, wonderful world of Loke Wilson

Categories: Freaky Friday

lokewilson.jpg
There's something admirable about an artist who just does their own damn thing, who doesn't give a fuck about trends or tastes, and who couldn't care less about how cool they look -- or don't look. Ladies and gentleman, Loke Wilson is just such an artist.

In the cold, dark hinterlands of Norway, Loke has been busy brewing up off-the-wall instrumental synth tunes for years. It's not synth pop, it's not dance music, it's just ... Loke. You could point to Kraftwerk as an influence, maybe some New Wave stuff here and there ... mostly it's just it's own thing.

Lithuanian dad stricken with Bieber fever

Categories: Freaky Friday

Who can resist the siren's call of little Justin Bieber? Well, besides anyone with a modicum of taste, apparently no one is safe, whatever far-off location they might be in. Take today's video, which comes to us from exotic Lithuania!

Now, in addition to being the first Soviet republic to say, "Thanks, but no thanks!" at the end of the cold war, we're going to guess that Lithuania has a decent nightlife scene, where its citizens go to while the night away dancing their hearts out. Why do we think this? Video evidence -- today's subject had to learn those sick moves somewhere.

Behold the unholy terror of Korean hip-hop star G-Dragon

Categories: Freaky Friday

gdragon.jpg
Meet G-Dragon. He's a Korean rapper who seems to be the unholy hell spawn of T Pain, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. He's got Bieber's androgynous look and hairstyle (albeit in a bleached-blonde model), Gaga's fashion sense and dance moves and all the overly-AutoTuned goodness of a dozen T-Pain songs packed into this one track.

Terrified yet? Good, then let's continue.

Japanese Spider-Man shows he's far weirder than American Spider-Man

Categories: Freaky Friday

Forget what you think you know of Spider-Man. Forget Toby Maguire, forget Sam Raimi, forget everything from the movies. Hell, forget Peter Parker and radioactive spiders -- this is Japanese Spider-Man we're talking about today.

Japan is a wonderful place with their own special way of doing things. Like our own great nation, they tend to take they things they like from other countries, give them their own twist and resell them to the locals. Here, we add bacon. In Japan, giant robots.

An economics lesson delivered via awkward white guy rap

School's back in session! Which means, for at least some of you, that right now you should probably be doing your homework instead of looking at music blogs. But don't worry -- we've got you covered. Today, you can enjoy all the bloggy goodness of Backbeat and get your learn on, thanks to "Fear the Boom and Bust" a Hayek vs. Keynes Rap Anthem. It's all the economic history of your intro to economics class, now with added beats!

Is that a hellhound singing praise to Jesus?

Categories: Freaky Friday

goddog.jpg
We're pretty sure this week's video is evidence that demons are real. It purports to be a man singing a song about Jesus that uses a dog metaphor.

Hey, kids love dogs, right?

Only we're pretty certain that any child exposed to this will cry, run away and/or refuse to go to sleep for days afterward. And then refuse to listen to anything more about this "Jesus" character the dog thing was singing about.

It's scary in the way that clowns are scary. And it's creepy in that grownups-who-think-mugging-at-kids-while-wearing-Satan's-own-facepaint-is-funny, extra-creepy sort of way. Hell, we're grownups and we're getting kind of freaked out just thinking about it...

Nerd girl goes musical sex kitten for the enormous talent of Ray Bradbury

Categories: Freaky Friday

RayBradbury.jpg
That's right -- this guy.
The number of science fiction authors who can number themselves among the objects of sexual fascination that have had inspired bouncy pop songs about that lust was, presumably, zero until very recently. But now, the ardor of Rachel Bloom for prolific and excellent science fiction author Ray Bradbury has changed all that, and thank the space gods for it. Now we have at least one such song, unsubtly titled "Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury" and it is burning up the Internets this week.

Glimpse the future of girl pop with Wonder Girls, Korea's most awesome export

Many awesome things come from Korea: Samsung, kimchiand Hyundai all hold a special place in our hearts. But all that is secondary to the greatest Korean export of them all -- the K-pop genius of Wonder Girls.

More baby rappers fill your freakout quotient for the week

Categories: Freaky Friday

0806_mini-daddy.jpg
In honor of our recent discovery of the "baby wrestling rap" of ICP progeny Violent JJ, we decided to fish around the fetid sewers of YouTube to see what other "baby rap" genres are out there, and sweet lord, did we find the mother lode.

Meet Mini Daddy, baby reggaeton superstar.

As disturbing as Violent JJ's clown rap/wrestling shtick was, Mini Daddy has the edge, thanks to the utterly tasteless inclusion of some nine-year-old (or so) girls in the video, grinding away just like the nineteen-year-old girls in your typical rap video. That elevates it from perverse and off putting to perverted and outright disturbing.
