What the Hell's Up at the Former Mel's?

Categories: The Dish

At this time last year, fans were still bemoaning the closure of Mel's in Cherry Creek. But there's been a lot of action since then. Mel Master turned his two Montecito restaurants into reincarnations of Mel's -- but now, as detailed here, plans to sell majority interest in the Mel's in Greenwood Village (the neighboring Agave Grill will be sold off altogether) and have his son, Charlie, turn the Mel's at 1120 East Sxth Avenue into Mel's Anti-Bistro.

Meanwhile, the spot at 235 Fillmore Street, where Mel's had ruled for over a decade (shown in its heyday above), was taken over by Iron Mountain Winery -- which barely made it a few months. And now, God help whoever, someone is giving it another try, judging from this notice filed with the City of Denver:

You are hereby notified that pursuant to the Colorado Liquor and Beer Codes, and the Denver Revised Municipal Code, 235 License Manager, LLC doing business as 235 License Manager, LLC: Mr. Roy Kline, Sole Managing Member, 235 Fillmore Street, has by application of June 6, 2008, requested the Licensing Authority of the City and County of Denver to grant a Beer and Wine Liquor License to sell Malt and Vinous beverages by the drink for consumption
ON the premises at 235 Fillmore Street, Denver, Colorado. You are further notified that on
August 18, 2008 at the hour of 9:00 a.m. a hearing on such application will be held at 201 West
Colfax Ave., Dept. 206, Denver, Colorado 80202. Information may be obtained and questions directed to the Office of the Director of Excise and Licenses relating to this application and the area through which petitions may be circulated. Petitions and remonstrances may be filed with the Director of Excise and Licenses, 201 West Colfax Ave., Dept. 206, Denver, Colorado 80202. Also, any party in interest desiring a night hearing must make application for such at least twenty (20) days prior to the date of hearing mentioned above. The granting of that request could cause the hearing to be rescheduled for 6:00 p.m. that same day.
