The Fainting Goat Stands Tall
At 11 a.m. today, The Fainting Goat will be standing tall -- and open, at 846 Broadway, in the former home of Moon Time, and Minturn, and Basil's, and the Parlour before that. The Parlour is the first incarnation that Mark Holland remembers, and the memory was enough to get him in the door when he was looking for another bar and Moon Time finally closed for good.
Holland had opened Hopper's Sports Grill, a giant sports bar at 10051 I-70 Frontage Road North in Wheat Ridge, last December -- and, in fact, it was the sight of one regular passed out with his ass on the bar stool, like a fainting goat, that inspired the name of this saloon.
Although a fainting goat isn't exactly emblematic of an authentic Irish pub, the Fainting Goat is a "pub with an Irish twist," Holland explains. It's also a pub that will be open from 11 a.m.- 2 a.m. in a neighborhood that can really use it (Westword's neighborhood, to be precise). The menu includes plenty of pub grub: burgers, sandwiches, wings, Irish nachos and a few heftier nachoes, including Guinness stew.
It's enough to make us stand up and take notice.
