Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches
110 16th Street and three other metro locations
303-623-5050

Italian Night Club
Genoa salami, Italian capicola, smoked ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and Italian vinaigrette
$5.55

There’s no reason why Jimmy John’s should be as good as it is. The menu is about as simple as it gets – nothing fancy, nothing creative. It’s a chain; it’s crowded; it’s gimmicky, with various mottos: “Subs so fast, you’ll freak!” or “Your mom wants you to eat at Jimmy John’s” or “Vote for Jimmy.”

But the sandwich I had, the Italian Night Club, made me a believer. I normally don’t go for club sandwiches or Italian meats, sticking mostly to meatballs, turkey and pastrami, but I’m glad I took the bold step toward Italy on this occasion.

Maybe it was the Italian dressing, maybe it was the delicious combo of meats, or maybe it was that the submarine-style hoagie roll that kept everything, including the lettuce and other veggies, packed in tight. But something about Jimmy John’s made me want more, and not just because the price was extremely reasonable at $5.55.

Yeah, I voted, and I voted for Jimmy. – Jonathan Shikes
