The Boulderado has some tread on its tires. The landmark Boulder hotel will celebrate its hundredth year in 2009, beginning with an elaborate New Year's Eve gala and an open house on January 4.
But you don't have to wait until then to enjoy the Boulderado's most noteworthy feature: the buffet. The hotel has offered seasonal --Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and Mother's Day -- spreads for "about fifteen to twenty years," says marketing assistant Lynn Brewer. "We have people making reservations in July for the Christmas buffet, and it has become a tradition for Boulderites."
This year's Christmas buffet, served from noon to 3:30 p.m., will feature an elaborate spread ranging from sea-salt-crusted prime rib to eggnog cheesecake. The charge is $35.95 for adults and $18.95 for children ages six to twelve.
Although the Boulderado has only been featuring buffets for two decades, it's been serving meals since the year it opened. As proof, Brewer sent a Christmas menu from 1909 and a Thanksgiving menu from 1926.
Cassoulet of Sweetbread? Mince Pie? English Plum Pudding? They don't sound too bad, actually. In fact, I'd rather have a cassoulet from 1909 than this fine option today. -- Tyler Nemkov
