The latest from Larimer Street, part two

Categories: The Dish

While the 2000-2200 blocks of Larimer Street are jumping, things quiet down past Snooze. And a rancorous project at 2425 Broadway, on the triangular parcel of property bordering Larimer that once held an auto body shop and the late, lamented Bamboo Hut, is currently on hold.  The owners of that parcel, Focus Property Group, would like to put a 7-Eleven there -- but neighbors are complaining that a convenience store would encourage the wrong crowd to congregate.

Focus got a variance from the city in 2006 that would allow for an "eating place" on the property; now it's seeking a new variance that would alllow a "food sales or market, small." It had a hearing slated for noon December 2 in front of the Board of Adjustment for Zoning Appeals -- but that hearing has been postponed until February 10.

Which should give the neighbors plenty of time to organize, and Focus a chance to bolster its arguments for why bringing in Big Gulps and taquitos could only help the area. -- Patricia Calhoun
