Good news for GoodBelly, if you can stomach it

GoodBelly - Quart and Multi.jpg

GoodBelly is growing like the beneficial bacteria -- or probiotic -- that makes your belly feel good. The pet of NextFoods, a Boulder-based health-food company, GoodBelly was recently included in the Los Angeles Examiner's "Top Ten Best Food Product Introductions for 2008." The product was created by Steve Demos, the founder of WhiteWave's Silk soy milk, and Todd Beckman, who worked with Demos at WhiteWave.

Goodbelly is made from fruit and the probiotic Lp299v, which has been proven to assist in general digestion and help improve the immune system.

"We set out last year to introduce a new, unique, highly nutritious product that we believed in to the marketplace, one that provides a tangible health benefit to consumers. These honors are great milestones for our new brand," says Demos. "Even more gratifying than this recognition, however, is positive feedback we're hearing from consumers all over the country on a daily basis, who are discovering GoodBelly for the first time and how it's benefiting their health and overall wellness. Our team continues to be encouraged by this, and we're committed to bringing the great nutritious properties of GoodBelly to as many consumers as possible in 2009 and beyond."

The drink is distributed at more than 4,000 stores across the country, including Whole Foods, King Soopers, Safeway, Publix, Wegmans, HEB, Albertsons and select Super Target stores.

Considering that Silk is the pre-eminent soy drink out there (it's what you get when you order your soy latte at Starbucks!), I'm guessing Demos will strike gold again and that GoodBelly, and probiotics in general, will be very "in" in 2009.

After all, my uncle says probiotics will be big, and he's a Jew-converted Hindu who has been vegan and doing yoga for the last forty years. I listen to him, and so should you.

Personally, if I am looking for a tremendous probiotic benefit, I go right to my Natren probiotic supplement, which has 30 Billion CFUs per capsule. In my opinion, this drink may taste good, but what kind of probiotic benefit does it offer? The verdict is still out on that one... www.truthaboutprobiotics.com

I've been suffering with IBS for the last year and nothing has helped. I have pain and discomfort in my tummy almost anytime I eat... I tried Goodbelly a few weeks ago (one serving each morning) and had a week of no pain, no discomfort, and absolute normalcy.

I don't know what my body is missing but it sure seems that Goodbelly has it.

I really hope it makes it and stays on the market - this stuff really does help. I'm pretty skeptical about health foods sold cheap at the supermarket (how much good can they really do), but Goodbelly is definitely good for my belly!
