Aix marked the spot that will soon be Olivea

Categories: The Dish
One of the first big restaurant deals of the new year was the purchase of Aix -- by a new partnership comprised of of Keith Arnold and Stephanie Bonin (owners of Duo), and John Broening and Yasmin Lozada-Hissom (chef and pastry chef of Duo, respectively). When the quartet took on Aix, they had a concept -- Mediterranean, with an emphasis on the cuisines of Spain, Italy and Southern France -- but no name.

Now it does: Olivea will be opening at 719 East 17th Avenue in early May. But even while they get their new place up and running, Broening will remain chef at Duo, cooking in the kitchen one day a week, Bonin says. And Lozada-Hissom will continue as Duo's pastry chef. Good move: She was just named a semi-finalist in the James Beard Foundation awards for her work there.
