Restaurant Kevin Taylor on the cheap
I've had an on-again/off-again love/hate relationship with Kevin Taylor over the years I've spent on this job. But one thing that's been unswerving has been my respect for his eponymous flagship, Restaurant Kevin Taylor at the Hotel Teatro (1106 14th Street). I've had a couple of the best single plates in Denver in this room, and will forever recall his pave of salmon (mounted over a semolina gateau, with a green leek and sorrel emulsion) as the most perfect version of this particular dish I have ever had. It is a great restaurant, one that maybe doesn't get quite as much ink as it deserves, or as much love. But suffice it to say, this room is where KT is at his best--offering the purest and truest vision of what this multi-unit operator is made of.
Which is why I am understandably excited that he and his RKT crew have decided to get a jump on Denver Restaurant Week by offering the same menu and $52.80-for-two price starting on February 16 and running through February 19 -- several days ahead of the official February 21 start of the foodie festivities.
So why is Restaurant Kevin Taylor getting such a jump on the fun?
Because RKT is already completely booked for all seatings during Denver Restaurant Week. My advice to you? Get on the phone now and take advantage of the extended offer (or go even earlier for the $99 prix fixe dinner for two offered through February 12, in honor of Restaurant Kevin Taylor's tenth anniversary). As a tease, here's the Denver Restaurant Week (and pre-Restaurant Week) menu:
Roasted New Potato and Poached Asparagus Salad
with Micro Arugula, Grilled Lemon, Roquefort, Mustard Vinaigrette
Caramelized Snake River Farms Pork Belly
with Honeycomb Root Vegetables, Tellicherry Pepper, Barbeque Broth
Lightly Curried Cauliflower Velouté
with Soft Boiled Quail Egg, Brioche Flatbread, American Sturgeon Caviar
Crispy Roasted Pave of Atlantic Salmon
with Imported French Lentils, Roasted Tomatoes, Haricot Verts, Peppered Leeks
Roast Black Angus NY Sirloin
with Parmesan Potatoes, Creamed Mushrooms, Cognac Jus
Golden Raisin and Cauliflower Tortellini
with Fried Capers, Caramelized Cauliflower, Ginger Parmesan Froth
German Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich
with Toasted Coconut Biscuit, Bittersweet Chocolate Ice Cream, Smoked Almonds, Caramel
Tahitian Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée
with Pistachio Madeleines, Vanilla Bean Sugar
Those of you who've not yet begun planning your orgy of cheap eats for Denver Restaurant Week should start right now at www.denver.org/denverrestaurant/. This year's spread of restaurants and menus is the biggest and best yet, but the rooms are filling up fast.
Consider yourselves warned.
