Tony's Market seeking serious foodies

Those of us who hang out within the walls (and behind the alleys) of Westword are peeing our pants right now -- and not because every news channel in Denver is scaring the shit out of viewers with their panic warnings to stay the hell off the streets.

No, we're having bladder control issues because Tony's Market is taking up residence in the former Planned Parenthood office space at 950 Broadway, directly across the street from Westword headquarters, and while we have to grudgingly wait until the end of May before we can scoot over for one of the market's amazing sandwiches, the anticipation is palpitating.

We're talking 15,000 square feet of foodie bliss: a gigantic deli with gazillions of meats and worldly cheeses, barbecue and housemade sausage, a European-style bread and dessert bakery, a pleasuredome of prepared foods, local produce, fresh seafood and a ninety-seat bistro pouring wine and beer.

That's great news for us Westworders, but ever better news for those of you seeking employment in the wonderful world of food, because from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, Tony's is hosting a job fair at the Downtown Denver Workforce Center at 1391 Speer Boulevard, suite 500.

Here's the dish straight from the market's "Seeking Serious Foodies" help-wanted ad:

We are hiring for at least 70 positions in anticipation of the opening of our new downtown market at 960 Broadway in Denver's historic Golden Triangle neighborhood. Opportunities range from entry-level through store management.

Open positions include: customer service for deli, bakery, produce & meat, servers, busser/food runners, bistro manager, prep cooks, kitchen manager, cashiers, produce manager, produce buyer, meat and seafood manager, bakery production and other general store positions.

Applicants attending the job fair should dress professionally (don't take any fashions hints from Westword restaurant critic Jason Sheehan; my advice, not theirs) and be prepared for interviews with Tony's representatives.

To complete an online application prior to getting grilled, submit your skills set to www.tonysmarket.com/jobs.cfm. Job seekers should register in advance at www.connectingcolorado.com.

Good luck, kids.
