Colorado Bartenders Guild hosts first cocktail competition

Categories: Booze News

For Colorado bartenders, taxes aren't the only thing due on April 15. That's also the deadline for submitting recipes to the first cocktail competition of the year organized by the Colorado Bartenders Guild (COBG). And I'll be helping to judge the results at 6 p.m. April 26 at Trios Enoteca, along with Bryan Dayton, Mike Henderson and Robert Leavey (thanks to Sean Kenyon of Steuben's for getting me in on the action).

I'm in awe of great bartenders, who make mixing drinks an art, not just a job. The artist who wins this event will go on (all expenses paid) to the National USBG Competition in San Francisco on May 12, competing against the nation's best bartenders for a chance to represent the United States at the International Cocktail Competition. Absolut is the sponsor for the national and international competitions, so the COBG is asking that Absolut 80 be the base spirit for Colorado's competition, too.

To see the rules and regulations, go to www.heartofsin.com/competition.html, where you can also sign up to be a contestant. Ten finalists that will compete for the top spot; the best three cocktails will win prizes.
