Bucking to visit every Starbucks

Former Westword staffer and Denver native Julie Jargon is now a reporter at the Wall Street Journal, on the restaurant beat, and proving with every story just how interesting the restaurant industry can be.

Last week's front-page story, "A Fan Hits a Roadblock on a Drive to See Every Starbucks," was a classic: Jargon described the quest of 37-year-old Winter (yes, that's the name he goes by) to visit every Starbucks. That quest has been accelerated by Starbucks recent announcement that it plans to close yet more stores: "If the store closed before I visited, I would lose another piece of my soul," Winter told Jargon.

So far, he's hit more than 9,000 Starbucks stores, in seventeen countries. This week, he's headed to the U.K. to reach an outlet before it closes.

"Pointless though it might it be," Winter tells Jargon, "a goal is a goal."
