CRA Distinguished Service Award: Dick Weil
This month, the Colorado Restaurant Association inducted three people into its Hall of Fame, an honor bestowed on those who've had a huge impact on the local restaurant scene. The CRA also awarded the Richard P. Ayers Award for Distinguished Service to Dick Weil.
Weil's restaurant career began humbly, when he worked as a soda jerk at the Soda Straw in Denver. He graduated Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974 and then went to the University of Houston to study hotel management. After serving as GM for Kraft Foods in southern California, he returned to Denver to head up sales for Multi Foods.
In 2001 he purchased Nic-N-Willy's Pizza, where he remains CEO and president.
"The Distinguished Service Award is a great honor and a true pinnacle for my career in the food service and hospitality industry," Weil says. "This award is very special to me, as both my parents had received this award in the '70s recognizing their dedication to the industry as well."
Weil's parents were in the food-service distribution business as owners of Westman
Commission Company, which was acquired by Kraft Foodservice in the mid-'80s
and today is part of the Centennial-based US Foodservice Distribution Company.
"I am very proud of my association with the Colorado Restaurant Association," Weil continues, "and to be acknowledged with this award for my work in an industry I love is very special to me. I have my family and my business associates and partners to thank, as without the support of family and business associates and partners none of my career's success would have been possible."
