PETA proclaims Coors Field the third most vegetarian-friendly ballpark

As if Clint Hurdle's recent dismissal by the Colorado Rockies wasn't enough to piss off rabid baseball fans, now comes word that PETA, or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has bestowed a decidedly unsettling honor on Coors Field -- you know, home of the foot-long Rockie hot dog -- naming it the third most vegetarian-friendly ballpark in the country. It's right behind Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies) and AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants), which ranked first and second, respectively, in the organization's annual compilation of the best veggie ballparks in the U.S.

According to the peeps at PETA, Coors Field's veggie dogs and burgers, meat-free pasta, vegetable sandwiches with grilled peppers and onions, vegetable wraps and vegetable panini, all of which are shoveled out right alongside the foot-long Rockie dog, slid the ballpark, which ranked eighth in last year's list, into third base.

"Colorado fans drool over Coors Field's delicious meat-free options like fantasy team owners drool over Todd Helton on draft day," oozed PETA assistant director Dan Shannon. (I wonder if he talks to animals that way ...)

Anyway, each of the ten baseball clubs that made it onto the 2009 list will receive a framed certificate and a congratulatory letter from PETA. Coors Field could use it as fish wrap for a Rockie dog.
