New downtown farmers' market rises from the asphalt
There's a new farmers' market in the heart of downtown Denver.

Three months ago, the spot at 15th and California streets that's now home to Tiri's Garden and the Tiri's Garden Farmers' Market was an empty asphalt lot, a plot of well-positioned real estate that seemed destined to remain vacant for the foreseeable future because of the struggling economy.
But Christie Isenberg, head of the Concerts for Kids charity and a new convert to urban homesteading, had another idea, as Westword writer Joel Warner reported in a blog for his Urbavore's Dilemma series, "Christie Isenberg aims to till the asphalt jungle."
The urban oasis is now hosting a farmers' market every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last week's inaugural event was small, but the fare looked delicious. There were fresh green beans and plump tomatoes from Platteville's Miller Farms, homemade kalamata olive hummus from Wild Thyme Naturals of Denver, and chocolate-y eclairs from Dream Pastries of Castle Rock.
CFK's Corey Hennegan says the they hope to double the size of the farmers' market in the coming weeks, adding live music as well as vendors selling breakfast and lunch items.
So what are you waiting for, cubicle-dwellers? Bust out of your office and go buy some zucchini.
