I recently got an e-mail from Chris asking one of the classic questions posed to restaurant writers in young food cities:
"Westword always posts reviews of restaurants in the metro area, but have you ever done a review of late-night restaurants? I work nights and am usually up for some food right about the time most places close (10pm). Can you recommend some places that aren't soaked in grease that I can check out?"
The answers to your questions, Chris, are yes and yes. Yes, I have done many reviews of late-night restaurants. Being something of a night-owl myself (polite phrase for a bloody-eyed fucking insomniac), I am a big supporter of any joint that keeps the lights burning long after dark. And yes, I can recommend a few places. Some of my favorites: Izakaya Den (which serves until 11 p.m. on Fridays), the Corner Office (although you're ordering off the lounge menu from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.) and the Wazee Supper Club, which will make you a pizza until after 1 a.m. (and is celebrating its 35th birthday this week). And then there's Tom's Diner and the Breakfast King, which both serve 24/7.
