Bistro Vendome

Today is Bastille Day, and while the really cool parties will no doubt take place on the streets of Paris, we've got plenty of celebratory bashes to storm right here in Denver, beginning with Bistro Vendome, the Frenchified spot at 1420 Larimer Street that's encouraging habitues to "sing a few verses of La Marseillaise, break out the Champagne and hug a Frenchman." All of which you can accomplish during breaks between the three courses featured on chef Matt Anderson's Bastille Day menu: Fig and Brie sandwich with Parma ham, rosemary port glaze and micro arugula; seared tuna au poivre with heirloom tomato soup, avocado mousse and fried artichokes with a lemon-anchovy creme fraiche; and orange cinnamon pain perdu. The prix-fixe board is $35 per person, or $56 paired with wines, and the regular dinner menu will also be available. To book your seat, call 303-825-3232.

At Le Central, 112 East Eighth Avenue, the carousing started yesterday when the French bistro unveiled its new patio. The homage continues tonight with a $27.95 per person, prix-fixe menu that includes steak tartare or guillotined shrimp with cherry tomatoes, oranges and fennel; grilled veal flat iron steak or whole Maine lobster in a Champagne and Cognac sauce; and (let them eat) chocolate cake. For reservations, call 303-863-8094.

There's no chocolate cake at Brasserie Felix, 3901 Tennyson Street, but there will be complimentary kir cocktails, plus several Bastille Day food specials. Exec chef Jeff Cruse is also doing a four-course, prix-fixe menu that'll include salad or soup, a cheese plate, entree (chicken confit or roasted salmon) and, for dessert, bread pudding; call 303-953-2401 to join the party.
