Civic Center Eats: Forte Farms

David Huska bags some Colorado peaches at Civic Center Eats.

Native peaches belong on a short list of the best things about Colorado. The Forte Farms stand has other things as well -- plums and tomatoes -- but the peaches are the real draw. In the five or ten minutes I was standing there at last Tuesday's Civic Center Eats, David Huska sold a couple plums, one tomato and about a dozen peaches. These shoppers knew what was good for them.

Huska is a journalism student from Serbia. He's in Denver on a student exchange program, which set him up with this job selling Forte fruit at farmers' markets. As summer jobs in foreign countries go, this one is pretty sweet. The stand, unlike his chosen profession, is thriving.

Forte Farms is based in Palisade. Its produce can be found at fifteen Denver markets, and Forte also has a storefront on South Federal.

Civic Center Eats runs every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Civic Center; find out more here. Read about Yo's Cheesesteak, our last featured booth, right here.
