El Toro a must-stop on Colorado Boulevard

eltoro.jpg
The Westword staff cruised Colorado Boulevard for this week's cover story, with stops at restaurants ranging from an old-school IHOP (which replaced a Village Inn) to the very new-school, new Snooze.

One of our favorite spots didn't make the cut -- but it's definitely worth the drive to El Toro , the restaurant that Eddie Garcia opened at 4957 Colorado Boulevard sixteen years ago. Garcia is a member of the family that owned the beloved Mexico City Lounge, and he brought those recipes with him to this joint tucked away in a warehouse area, decorated with velvet paintings, beer signs and TVs. But you don't come here for the ambience: you come for great Mexican breakfasts, which Garcia starts serving at 7 a.m., and the green chile, and the steak tacos -- fried, greasy and incredibly delicious.

We brake for El Toro.
