Cafe Society: Week in review

What you might have missed this week on Cafe Society while you were counting the minutes to Zolo Southwestern Grill's 105 days of tequila.

While we locals aren't pleased that the Rockies blew another season of baseball, we understand that not everyone is a fan of the purple and black (or any other Denver sports team color scheme, for that matter), which is why our list of the town's best bars at which to root for your favorite non-Colorado sports team should make all you Denver sports haters happy.

Jason Sheehan, still reeling from his abysmal experiences at Mark & Isabella, mapped out a new staffing plan for Mark Tarbell and his henchmen. Sheehan also offered free staffing advice to Curt Steinbecker, co-owner of Ondo's, the new Spanish restaurant opening in mid-November in Cherry Creek.

Staffing issues weren't part of the conversation Lori Midson had with Chad Clevenger, exec chef/owner of Mel's Bar and Grill and the subject of this week's Chef and Tell interview, but Clevenger opined about several other topics, including Bobby Flay's ego and Rod Stewart's obsession with lamb.

We reported on several new openings (and openings-to-be) this week, including the Green Gringo, Boulder's newest grub truck, the Archive Room in Arvada and Billy's, a hot dog and sausage house on Larimer Street that's aiming for a mid-November opening.

Nancy Levine picked the hilarious brain of Leigh Jones, the owner of Jonesy's EatBar, who hates to waste good booze. Who can blame her?

And in more booze news, Joe Tone rolled out a must-keep memo on ten of the best last-call shots and what, exactly, they'll help you accomplish -- a Quick Fuck, for example.
