Things are getting saucy in Denver

Perhaps the third time's a charm. That's what Isaac Torres is betting on when he and his father, Raul, open Saucy at 2200 Market Street in the space that formerly held Otto's Grill (for a nanosecond) and before that, Brix. "We're doing a family-run barbecue joint where you can get your grub on," says Isaac, who spent time in Tennessee and Texas before moving to Colorado. "We want to do really good southern food, stuff like cole slaw and hot slaw, potato salad and great burgers and 'que," he told me when I stopped by yesterday for a peek.

As for the name, Isaac explains that the kitchen, led by him, will favor barbecue sauces, burger sauces and salsas. "We definitely like our sauces and the ones that we'll be doing here will be very, very good," he promises.

Isaac is shooting for a mid-January opening "depending upon construction and how fast we can get everything put together," he says. When that day comes, Saucy will serve lunch and dinner, Monday through Saturday.
