Get lit in LoDo this holiday season!

Dixons packaged itself for the holidays.
Twenty-seven businesses entered the first annual LoDo Aglow: Scenes of the Season window-decorating contest, lighting up for the holidays (and through the Stock Show, like the Denver City and County Building).

And the winners, announced this week by the LoDo District, provide a very delicious reason for a trip to lower downtown:

Dixons
, 1610 16th Street, won in the student category, with "A Gift to the Fourteeners." The downtown watering hole has turned fourteen windows into packages addressed to alleged "celebrities" in the community. (One was addressed to me, for example, and the one pictured above to fellow judge Penny Parker -- bribery works!)

The Oxford Hotel, at Wazee and 17th Streets, won the professional category with "Enchanted Winter Wonderland." Best way to appreciate this over-the-top display: after a hot toddie or two in the Cruise Room or McCormick's, both conveniently located in the hotel.

Organixx, 1520 Blake Street, took the business category award with "...dreaming of a Green Christmas," but it also deserves bonus points for a creative way of pushing its politics. The very green restaurant created Christmas trees out of recycled products and wreaths out of empty chip bags, then hung the windows with recycling logos for stars and strings of green lights.

Let there be light!
