Cowboy up for some wild West eating

The National Western Stock Show has doubled your drinking pleasure this year. Not only has the Cowboy Bar -- the temporary saloon set up in the basement of the Hall of Education, right by the stalls where bulls are groomed -- expanded, adding more than a dozen seats and space for an impromptu dance floor, but the Stock Show has launched a second bar.

This one, called the Tack Room Bar, is located in the basement of the Expo Hall/Events Center and, like the Cowboy Bar, is open as long as there are customers around. Also like the Cowboy Bar, which just offers peanuts, it's food-impaired -- but the Sirloin Hut and pork-chop-on-a-stick booth are just outside the door.

Make sure to grab a piece of pork before today's Colorado State University Seminar, set for 3 p.m. in the Beef Palace Auction Arena in the Hall of Education. The series of hour-long lectures, new this year, are all free.

Better grab a beer, too. Because Laura Bauer, assistant director of the CSU Nutrition Center, will be discussing "The Wild West Diet for Today, While Eating What You Like." According to Jim Beers, a CSU spokesman, "She'll be taking what you might consider a traditional Wild West diet -- meat and potatoes, beans -- and showing how to make it more healthy for today's lifestyle."

Hold the peanuts.
