Marczyk Fine Foods celebrates its eight-year anniversary with burgers and store discounts

Marczyk Fine Foods, the Uptown market at 770 East 17th Avenue, is kicking off its seasonal sidewalk burger bash tonight at 5 p.m. "We started the burger night as a way to get people in the neighborhood to taste one of our favorite products -- Niman Ranch beef -- and everyone loved it so much that we decided it would be great to do burger nights throughout the summer as a way for people to get together and rendezvous," says Barbara Macfarlane, who owns the store along with her husband, Pete.

Pete will play the role of grill-master, firing up fat, juice-dribbling patties of Niman Ranch beef, topping them with all the requisite adornments and serving then on squishy buns from City Bakery. "We want to bring as many people out as possible," says Barb. "Even if you don't step foot into the market, just come out and have a great burger." Red Trolley Ice Cream will be there, too, dishing out some of their favorite flavors. Tonight's burger deal is $6.99 per person, and unless there's a raging blizzard or a torrential downpour, the grill will go on.

Marczyk's, which is celebrating eight years in business, is also hosting a customer appreciation day tomorrow, Saturday, May 1, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with discounts throughout the store. "It's just one more way for our neighbors to come celebrate with us," notes Barb, and everything in the market is 10 percent off -- "wines, food, candy, ice cream, meats, absolutely everything."

Several Colorado vendors, including Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy, Continental Sausage, Novo Coffee, Bing Energy Drinks, Boulder's Meats and Sweet Action Ice Cream, will offer samples of their products throughout the day. "When we first opened the market, we only had one Colorado-made product -- beef jerky," Barb says. "But now we have a ton of Colorado-made products, everything from candy to chicken, and we're excited to have so many Colorado companies at the market on Saturday."
