Ted's Montana Grill is steering its way to Boulder

Ted Turner's bringing his bison to Boulder. Ted's Montana Grill will open its ninth Colorado restaurant the first week of October at 1701 Pearl Street.

The city is a good fit for the steak and comfort food chain says Ted's co-founder and chief executive officer George McKerrow Jr.

"We chose Boulder because it's a vibrant community with sound economic health," McKerrow says. "Colorado is one of our top markets, and we love CU and the Buffs." (McKerrow's daughter attends the University of Colorado at Boulder.) McKerrow adds that he thinks Boulderites will appreciate Ted's commitment to making its food from scratch and using steroid, hormone and antibiotic-free meat.

The spot used to house the vegetarian-friendly Sunflower Restaurant, which closed last fall. It was rumored for some time that the restaurant was merely closed for remodeling, but Jason Sheehan nailed it when he wrote, "'Closed for Remodel' is, nine times out of ten, just restaurant-world code for 'Sold the booze, emptied the register and fucked off for Aruba.' It rarely ever means anything good."

McKerrow says they're doing a major renovation on the building, adding a bar and a sizeable patio. Ted Turner himself will be on hand for "preview" events the week before the opening.
