Jezebel's may not be haunted, but it's jinxed

Jezebel's in happier times -- like, the end of May.

"Now Open Under New Management," says the beer banner installned by the now old-new management in the completely dark Jezebel's Juke Joint & Brothel, the spot at 3862 High Street that was formerly the High Street Speakeasy and a host of other has-beens.

The web site is only slightly more forthcoming: "Jezebel's Juke Joint has been commondeered by SWINDLERS!!." reads the announcement on the home page. This, just a week after Drew Bixby raved about the place in Drunk of the Week.

Family, Friends, And lovers of Jazz; I regret to inform you that at 4:26 pm 5-25-10 the leaser of the building in which Jezebel's resides burst through the front door with rage in his eyes and demanded that the entire Jezebel's Juke Joint staff vacate the building. Apparantly the owner (Frank) preferred the establishment be run by his son (Marco) whom ran the bar during the time it was known as Marco's. Although the sun is setting on Jezebel's, the prospect of a neighborhood gathering place has helped us all to envision a new community, and that vision lives on; perhaps this type of establishment in this area was ahead of its time. Without the finances nor the grace of a kind hearted landlord we are forced to close the doors. However, we would like to extend our gratitude to all of you who shared in our passion and we hope that as guardians of this community you will watch over this fine building, no matter the intentions of her next occupants. Keep in your hearts the things that make this neighborhood unique and never forget the stories and experiences we shared at Jezebel's . We are packing up our blues.... and bidding you all a good night.
