Legend of the Liquid Brain day at Bull & Bush will melt your mind

The Bull & Bush Brewery will host an unusual vertical beer tasting on Wednesday to celebrate a gold medal it won in April at the World Beer Cup in Chicago.

Guests will be able to sample five different versions of its winning beer, The Legend of the Liquid Brain Imperial Stout - "a cool, flavorful, powerful beer," says Bull & Bush co-owner Erik Peterson, and one that "if you have too many, your brain will turn to mush."

The beer beat out 112 other brews to take the title in the Wood And Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category. Here is what will be sampled:

*The 2009 vintage

*The 2008 vintage, aged 1.5 years in a twenty-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrel

*The 2006 vintage, aged four years in a 1999 J.W. Lees Harvest Ale wood firkin, and primed with Lagavulin single malt scotch

*The 2005 vintage, aged five years in Dargaud Jaegle French oak barrel

*The 2003 vintage, aged two years in a Wild Turkey Rare Breed barrel, then aged another five years in a keg

Liquid Brain Day runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bull & Bush, 4700 Cherry Creek Drive South. A flight of samples of all five will cost $8.

There will also be Legend of the Liquid Brain Imperial Stout Beer Bratwursts (made by Continental Sausage) and Legend of the Liquid Brain Imperial Stout Ice Cream Cones.
