Perky Cups dumped in Aurora

Perky Cups has covered up.

The Aurora coffee shop, which delighted some locals and infuriated others by offering up scantily-clad baristas along with caffeine, has apparently closed amid a dispute with its landlord.

Store owner Jason Bernal couldn't be reached for comment, but an Aurora Sentinel article says the dispute involved violations of lease terms.

The store, 12101 East Iliff Avenue, opened last November as the metro-area's first bikini coffee shop. When they weren't brewing beans, the employees would often walk - or strut - around the store waving and holding signs.

A second store with a similar concept, Hot Chick-a-Latte opened in May at 4736 East Colfax Avenue, serving coffee with sizes like A-Cup and Double D, as well as a special creation called Morning Wood.

Both stores have taken heat over their steamy servers.

Perky Cups City was the subject of a boycott led by Aurora councilwoman Molly Markert, who asked people to stay away from not just the coffee shop, but the entire shopping center it was located in. "When one of his employees is raped and murdered, we will all mourn the loss," Markert wrote in her newsletter about Bernal. "In the meantime, we pledged not to shop...until the outside parades cease permanently."

Hot Chick-a-Latte has been the subject of several police complaints and taken a beating from neighbors, who don't like the way the ladies strut their stuff in public. To see that discussion, click, here, here and
