Doughnuts and beer are not just for breakfast anymore: The Hole opens on Tennyson

If you read our post back in June, you already knew that The Hole was slated to open sometime this summer. Today, the restaurant (3877 Tennyson Street) that unabashedly specializes in doughnuts and beer opened for business. Lori Midson brings back these photos from the Hole (slideshow).

I've been in Denver about two years, and after living up and down the West Coast and in Europe, the restaurant scene in Denver has left me a little disappointed. My disappointment is gone! I could eat at The Hole every day, and not get bored (fat maybe, bored no). My first visit, I ordered the maple bacon sandwich -- a fried egg, black pepper maple bacon and cheddar cheese sandwiched between a glazed doughnut sliced like a bagel -- I was nervous. It sounded a little over the top. I thought it was going to be a gut bomb, but I was intrigued. I had to take the chance. It was, hands down, the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. I think magic might be involved. I don't know how else a chef could combine those ingredients, and somehow create a sweet and savory, non-gut-bomb sandwich. And the doughnut???? It's dense with a flaky, mapley, delicious crust like no doughnut I've ever eaten. I'm not sure where you guys have been eating, but the place I've been eating at is AWESOME! And I'm not the only one who thinks so, it's non-stop busy every Saturday when I'm there. Apparently The Food Network thinks the doughnuts are good too...but what do they know? :)
well dang, these bad reviews(king soopers?!) are disappointing to read-i drive past every day and was psyched to have something new on the tennyson business strip to get excited about. i mean seriously, you know if somebody tried this venture at highlands square it would be done right. well, lets hope they figure it out, and here's hoping that the soon-to-open pizza joint across the street gets it right. sigh...
agreed. I really wanted to be swept away. And the 24 hour format sounded grand for a night worker like me! Unfortunatly the doughnuts were not that good, maybe a notch above King Soopers and I refuse to eat theirs. The only things that looked good on the menu were either not available or the recipe was still being made. Decor was lame. I just wished it at least smelled like fresh, delicious doughnuts.
I really wanted to like this place. I mean, I REALLY wanted to like this place. It's right near my house, on paper it sounds like a lot of fun and I thought it would fill a niche in the neighborhood. The problem is, the food blows. I was crushed when I had my first doughnut - heavy and doughy rather than a nice airy fluffiness that you would expect from a hand crafted doughnut. Sadly, the rest of the grub just goes down hill from there - the quality and the care with which is prepared is really sub par. Don't even get me started on the Espresso. Awful. I can forgive the tacky and boring interior as they've just opened and it's probably a work in progress but with food this bad, I doubt I'll ever go back to see it finished. SD

How the hell do you still have a job? Donuts and beer� I don't know which is more nauseating, the resurgence in popularity of drinking shit beer, our countries love for donuts or cupcakes having a Food Network show devoted to them. You should run out into traffic.
