Can pot jokes and beer go together?

Cheba Hut plans to find out.

The one-year-old downtown Denver outlet of this marijuana-themed sandwich chain just added a whopping twenty taps -- all of it craft beer, and all of it made by Colorado brewers like Left Hand, Oskar Blues, Avery, Odell and New Belgium -- easily outdoing most large restaurants in terms of local beer selection.

"Each of our stores rolls a little differently, and the guys down in Denver, Matt Clark-Johnson and Seth Larsen, like to go big," says spokesman Matthew Trethewey. "We've tried to stick to as much craft brew as we can. That's been formula since day one."

Several other restaurants opened recently with a lot of craft beer taps, including Stoney's Bar and Grill, the Mellow Mushroom, Euclid Hall and FreshCraft.

Cheba Hut, 1531 Champa Street, opened in August 2009, and had planned to have its liquor license in place at the time, but they held off in order to focus on building their customer base. They celebrated their one-year anniversary with beer, though.

"Good beer and good buds go together," Trethewey says. "We like all things good."

Cheba Hut is based in Fort Collins and has about a dozen stores in Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Oregon.
