This week in Cafe Society food bloggery: beer, Bon Appetit, Brandon Biederman and ChoLon Modern Asian Bistro

Behold the highlights from this week's Cafe Society blog:

1. With the streets of Denver flooded in suds, it's likely that you're well and truly hammered while reading this, but if you can still see the screen without covering up one eye, and you haven't had your fill of hops and barley, then click through our extended beer coverage, starting with a dozen non-Colorado breweries to try while you're sloshing around the Great American Beer Festival. Our own Jonathan Shikes, aka Beer Man, also tapped into Sweet Action Ice Cream's beer flavors. Oh, and the post he wrote about the country's most overrated breweries? Definitely worth reading. And the comments? Priceless.

2. Brandon Biederman, exec chef of Steuben's, downed a beer or two during his interview for this week's Chef and Tell Q&A, where he also talked about his favorite new food find (beef short plate), the dearth of kid-friendly joints in Denver, the oversaturation of the local, organic, green movement and the woman who brought her own scale to Steuben's. Who does that? No one we know.

3. Even Bon Appetit restaurant editor Andrew Knowlton managed to knock back a few cold ones on a recent jaunt to Boulder, where he drank Avery suds, stuffed his gut and then exercised like a maniac, presumably so he wouldn't have anything to show for the fact that he named the People's Republic America's Foodiest town of 2010. The fact that he uses the word "foodiest" is his first transgression, but Laura Shunk finds plenty of other sins in his ode to earth muffins.

4. Later next year, you can bet the sinners will be out in full force when Robert Thompson and Sergio Romero, the faces behind Argyll Gastropub in Cherry Creek, unmask a 24/7 diner and bowling alley in the former Big Lots space in the Baker district. The dual concept, set to debut next August, is the talk of the 'hood. We love the idea, and judging from the comments, so do the majority of you.

5. And speaking of new restaurants, ChoLon Modern Asian Bistro, the brainchild behind New York wunderkind Lon Symensma, is set to fling open its doors on October 5 in the SugarCube building. If the kitchen, which is seriously awe-inspiring, is any indication of what's to come, Denver grubniks are going to be blown away.
