WTF? Saturday's Gastravaganza of Beautiful Beer & Splendid Street Food is canceled
Among the hundreds of events taking place this week in honor of the Great American Beer Festival and Denver Beer Fest, the one I was looking forward to the most has been squashed. Sunk. Torpedoed. Axed.
The Gastravaganza of Beautiful Beer & Splendid Street Food, which was originally skedded for Saturday, September 18 at Breckenridge Brewery, 471 Kalamath Street, has been ripped from the roster, apparently because of low ticket sales, and that's a shocker, considering that it's a STREET FOOD event, and if street food isn't the flavor of the moment, I don't know what is.
Six local street trucks and mobile food carts -- Steuben's, Biker Jim's, Gastro Cart, Little Orange Rocket, Pinche Tacos and the Cupcake truck -- were supposed to sling food, starting at 6 p.m., and that food was supposed to be paired with beers from seven Colorado craft breweries, including the Wynkoop, Avery, Left Hand, Breckenridge, Odells, Ska and Del Norte.
"At this time, despite all the effort and hits, the ticket sales are not what we need them to be to have a stellar event, says Chelly Vitry, the co-organizer of the event. "We only want it to do it if it's great -- quality beer and food deserve no less -- so we're postponing the event until a still as of yet to be determined later date."
But no future date has been set, and that well and truly sucks, especially since the tickets were only $65. For all that beer and grub.
