Foursquare co-founder encourages users to wage war on Chipotle
In case you haven't heard, homegrown chain Chipotle Mexican Grill is offering a Facebook deal this weekend whereby if you "check in" using Facebook Places Mobile on your smartphone and show your phone screen, proving that you're not a big, fat liar to the eye-rolling workhorse behind the register, you'll get a buy-one, get-one free burrito, burrito bowl, salad or order of tacos. ![]()
But the deal, which kicks off tomorrow at noon and continues through Sunday evening at every Chipotle in the country, has pissed off Foursquare co-owner Dennis Crowley, who took to his twitter page earlier today to denounce the deal and instead plead with Chris Arnold, Chipotle's director of public relations, to spread the love -- specifically to offer a Foursquare deal instead.
Here's what Crowley had to say:
And while Chipotle's Facebook page is littered with comments from those who can't wait to wrap their jaws around a seam-splitting burrito (some are even vowing to hit up every Chipotle in town), others, like "Anna," write:
I love chipotle enough to do this, but I'm not a huge fan of Facebook Places, I much prefer Foursquare!! How about next time?!
And on Arnold's Twitter page, someone else quips:
I hate FaceBook (privacy issues). But I love FourSquare. What about me?!?!"
At the moment, you're SOL, but Arnold isn't averse to a future Foursquare promotion:
"Just FB Places this time, but let me hear from you #foursquare fans and I'll plead the case," tweeted Arnold earlier today.
You can bet that Crowley is waiting with burrito bated breath.
