Gaia Bistro lands a liquor license, will open for dinner in January

This Gaia Bistro crepe can now be paired with alcohol -- but dinner's still on hold
For years, Gaia Bistro has been a serene breakfast and lunch spot, serving crepes, salads and sandwiches to diners packed into the charming dining room or sunning themselves at tables on the large patio. There was just one drawback: Gaia never had a liquor license. Which is part of the reason it was never open for dinner.

But all that is about to change.

Patrick Mangold-White, the restaurant's owner, just secured the right to sell booze from the city, and with liquor license in hand, he decided the time was right to add dinner hours at Gaia, too. In fact, he was originally hoping to be open at night this week, but that change has been pushed back until the second week of January.

"We decided not to add dinner before the Christmas holiday," explains a host. "We'll get through the next couple of weeks and then make the change."

Liquor, on the other hand, is available right now -- and holiday luncheon groups have been quick to take advantage of the option. "We're selling bloody Marys, beer and wine, and champagne cocktails right now," the host adds.

We'll drink to that.
