Eight local street pavement pushers, who hustle grub from the confines of their mobile kitchens, will roll their wheels into the parking lot of Elitch's tomorrow as part of a toy drive to benefit the Denver Santa Claus Shop, a local nondenominational non-profit that collects and distributes free toys to children who get scrooged by St. Nick.

The asphalt food feast, which was organized by Nick Messer, the captain of N.Z's Smokin' Guns, a truck that turns out barbecue all over town, gets underway at 11 a.m. and continues through 4 p.m., with additional truck appearances from Paseo, Steuben's, Mikes2 Kitchen, Rosie Cakes, Max Lunch, Sully's Slice Truck and Walnut A Go-Go. "We're a new truck in town, so we wanted to get our name out there, but more important, we wanted to put together a toy drive and do something great for kids who wouldn't otherwise get any gifts at Christmas," says Messer, who launched his barbecue truck in late October.

"We're encouraging everyone who comes out to bring a new toy, and for everyone who does, the trucks will be giving out food discounts," notes Messer. In addition, every truck is donating ten percent of its sales to the Denver Santa Claus Shop. "It's just a really good way to give back to the community, especially this time of year, and all the food trucks will be serving some great food."

For his part, Messer will be doling out his applewood-smoked pulled pork, chicken and brisket, housemade barbecue sauces, fresh-cut fries, cheddar and cornbread muffins, baked beans, coleslaw and macaroni and cheese.

In other words, bring your appetite (and a new toy).
