Denver (and Patty's Chile Beer) make Esquire's list of top beer cities in the nation

Esquire Magazine has atoned for a huge mistake that Men's Journal made two years ago. Unlike that mag, it's included Denver in its list of the nation's seven best beer cities.

The Esquire issue, which just hit newsstands, lists Chicago, Denver, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, St. Louis and San Diego. And it makes specific mention of Patty's Chile Beer, a spicy Wynkoop Brewing concoction that is named for Westword founder and editor Patty Calhoun.

"Brewpubs and beer bars here often pour the very best Colorado has to offer, from New Belgium in Fort Collins to Ska and Steamworks in Durango," it reads. "Wynkoop Brewing Co. operates Denver's oldest brewpub, established in 1988, which has beers and food to make anyone happy. If you like it hot, try Wynkoop's house-brewed Patty's Chile Beer, a light German-style beer made with Anaheim chiles and smoked Ancho peppers."

In 2008, Men's Journal listed its best beer cities as San Diego, New York City, Portland, Philadelphia and Chicago. New York City? Really? The Big Apple may have some good beer bars, but very few breweries. And its cocktail culture is the real highlight when it comes to drinking.

And Denver is easily as good, if not better, than San Diego, Philly and Chicago. Bad list, Men's Journal.

Thanks, Esquire for getting it right.
