Michelle Obama orders ribs at Restaurant Kelly Liken, gets called fat by Rush Limbaugh

Michelle Obama spent her Presidents' Weekend without the president and with her daughters in Vail, where she skied, dined and managed to get the conservative media so riled up they called her fat.

We know that the First Lady has made battling childhood obesity her personal cause -- but we didn't know that we were all still in middle school.

And Rush Limbaugh, bat-shit crazy media pundit, is the class bully. "The problem is, and dare I say this, it doesn't look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice," he told his radio audience. "And then we hear that she's out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving.... She is a hypocrite."

His culinary critique followed a Vail Daily report that Obama had ordered ancho chile-braised bison short rib with wilted Tuscan kale, hominy and wild mushroom sauté, in addition to a pickled pumpkin and arugula salad at Restaurant Kelly Liken when she dined there on Saturday night. And it followed similar commentary from other conservatives, including a controversial cartoon depicting the First Lady as plump.

Never mind that Top Chef contestant Kelly Liken sources locally and organically, or the obvious nutritional value of things like "kale" and "arugula." As Liken told the Daily, the rib actually runs somewhere close to 600 calories. Which is completely reasonable for dinner, especially after a full day of skiing. And far from being a hypocrite, Obama dined at the restaurant because of its association with a local school program that teaches kids to grow produce in a greenhouse.

Which means Obama's getting raked over the coals for a weekend of exercising, eating kale and practicing what she preaches. But since talking about childhood obesity doesn't make great radio, why not go straight for the personal insults?

School's out.
