Club 404 available for lease...but still open

It could soon be last call for Club 404.

We almost lost Club 404 before, back in 2008, when Jerry Feld and his family had a deal to sell the iconic bar that Feld had bought back in 1951 -- when he wasn't even old enough to have a liquor license -- and had run ever since. That deal was put on hold by the lousy economy.

But lately, rumors have been swirling that Club 404 is again in play -- rumors that were swirling even as Jerry celebrated his eightieth birthday there two weeks ago. And now a new real-estate brochure lists the place as for lease. "Owners are retiring after sixty years," it advises, also noting that the "404 brand is included."

Broker Kelly Greene, who's listed as the contact on the brochure, and his partner, Steve Owens, who developed LoDo's Streetcar Stables, among other projects, have the Club 404 property under contract -- but need a tenant for the restaurant. "We had one all lined up," Greene says, "but that fell through."

They plan to "preserve the building as much as possible," Greene says, and are looking for an experienced restaurateur that "can do the volume to make the numbers work." And while they're re looking, Club 404 is still very much open, with Jerry Feld and his family in charge....just as they have been for the past sixty years.
