La Scala Trattoria, a new Italian restaurant in Wash Park, goes for its liquor license tomorrow

The Wash Park 'hood, especially the stretch of Alameda, between Logan and Downing, is turning into a bona fide restaurant row, thanks to new restaurants like Bittersweet, Pho Pasta, and soon, a fifth outpost of Larkburger, joining stalwarts like Pete's Central One, Lucile's Creole Cafe, Fontana Sushi, Thai Basil and Crazy Asian Cafe, all of which do a bang-up business.

But while there's a decent representation of cuisines along that swatch of asphalt, there are no Italian restaurants -- but that's about to change. Directly across the street from Lucile's, in a mini-mall that also houses Wok To You Chinese Kitchen, is a brand new sign for La Scala Trattoria, and while the space looks far from finished, the trattoria is moving ahead with trying to secure a liquor license. The application hearing is set for tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellington Webb building.
