Rosa Linda's will have a special chef/server today: James Mejia

It's patio weather at Rosa Linda's Mexican Cafe.

Back in 1985, when the Aguirre family opened Rosa Linda's Mexican Cafe at 33rd and Tejon, the neighborhood was looking a little run-down (to be kind). But just as the restaurant has grown, and the Aguirre kids have grown up, so has the neighborhood -- and today, it's the hottest restaurant neighborhood in town, with Squeaky Bean tucked into the corner of the building that houses Rosa Linda's (which the Aguirres own). It's a great, symbiotic combination that we can only hope will grow, too.

But in the meantime, there will be more action in the neighborhood today, when mayoral candidate James Mejia does a lunch shift at Rosa Linda's.

"As many of you know," writes oldest son Oscar, "the Aguirre family does not try to be politically active, but we have always been true to our roots and our community. With that said, we are pleased to announce that for the first time in Rosa Linda's Mexican Cafe history, we will be hosting a guest 'chef/waiter': James Mejia, aka 'future Mayor of Denver,' and long a part of our extended family as well as as a member of our community." In fact, it was serving on various community committees that Rosa Linda Aguirre got to know Meijia.

The mayoral candidate will be at Rosa Linda's today, from noon to 1:30 p.m. "See how well James can serve us not only as a cook and waiter," Oscar urges, "but as a mayor!"

And that's not the end of Rosa Linda's community involvement. While you're at the restaurant, as about the "Call to Action" meeting set for May 17.
