Stingray Lounge set to open next week in former Boston Fish Shack

Leigh Jones already owned Jonesy's EatBar, the Horseshoe Lounge next door and Bar Car, which opened just last June in the former home of the Recovery Room, so she thought it might be too soon to open a fourth place.

But after Steve Gelman closed the Boston Fish Shack (which had been Gelman's before that) in December, and essentially made her an offer she couldn't refuse, Jones and business partner Margaret Moore took over the spot at at 2911 West 38th Avenue. Now they're planning on opening it as the Stingray Lounge on Thursday, March 10.

Originally, Jones thought about going with a surf theme, but she decided to stick with early '60s car culture after getting some creative inspiration on a recent trip to Austin, Texas. Think American Graffiti, drag racing, even a little bit of Beach Blanket Bingo..

"Jonesy's is like an older sister over there," Jones says, "and the Horseshoe is kind of like the kid bar. And this one, even though it's more like the Horseshoe, it's going to be a little bit older. This neighborhood is a little older."

My Dad is in Beach Blanket Bingo!!!! He's the base player for Dick Dale! :)

Its a shame about Gelman's and Boston Fish Shack, but frankly, there was no reason for the constant tweaking and changing of the initial Gelman's concept once they got rid of the "deli" portion. It had become a casual neighborhood spot with good food at a reasonable price...for a short time.

Looking forward to Leigh opening something on the west side.

Leigh & Margaret will make it fun and interesting...........two of the best operators around!

Leigh will design it well and knock it out of the park! Congrats to them.
