The Boulder Farmers' Market opens on Saturday

A sizable sect of Boulder's population -- and dozens of Denverites -- make the Boulder County Farmers' Market a regular Saturday stop. Up and down a tree-lined section of Thirteenth Street, vendors sell everything from potted herbs and cheese to fresh eggs, mushrooms and salted caramel. Families stock up on a weeks worth of victuals; friends meet for coffee and and baked goods; and most people eventually make their way to the row of mobile vendors, who serve up dumplings, burgers and pizza to hungry shoppers who then enjoy lunch while taking in live music.

We love it for its variety and vibrancy, for its personality and produce, and for its status as a hub of social activity in the Boulder Valley. In fact, we love it so much, we gave it Best Farmers' Market this year.

And we can't wait for it to open this Saturday.

This market boasts one of the longest seasons in Colorado, kicking off every year on the first Saturday in April. It has an eight-month run, too -- it won't go on hiatus again until November. And though its early opening date frequently means adverse weather works against the crowd that comes out, rain or shine, this forecast for this Saturday is 78 degrees and sunny.

Which is about as good as it gets.

The market runs from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., from the first Saturday in April through the third Saturday in November. It also revs up from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday nights on the first Wednesday in May, hawking midweek products and produce until the first Wednesday in October.
