Today: The Delectable fuels a book drive with green eggs and ham

Bring your books and your appetite.

This weekend, everyone should like green eggs and ham. The breakfast dish from Dr. Seuss's book of the same name is central to a festive, philanthropic effort at the four locations of the Delectable Egg around Denver.

The restaurants will be serving Sam I Am's favorite dish today through March 20, and conducting a book drive with donations going to Read to Me Colorado, an organization dedicated to getting children from low-income families reading as early in life as possible.

During the event, customers are encouraged to wear festive St. Patrick's Day gear. and anyone who brings in a new or gently used children's book will receive either a free serving of green eggs and ham with the purchase of a regular entrée, a free Eggbert's Breakfast with ham from the kid's menu or a $3 off coupon valid for any menu items when the bill totals $10 or more. They can also draw from a leprechaun hat for a coupon good for their next visit to a Delectable Egg.

"Finding something green for St. Patrick's Day led to green eggs and ham, which led to books, which led to the idea of a charity drive," says Melissa Neilson, marketing director for the Delectable Eggs. "Read to Me Colorado seemed like the perfect fit. We hope we get at least 200 books between our four locations."
