Chipotle will open first ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen this summer
News leaked earlier this year that Denver-based Chipotle had registered the name ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, suggesting what might be in store for the Asian concept the company was planning on unveiling. And after months of keeping silent about it, the burrito chain is finally divulging a little information: ShopHouse is, indeed, the name of the new concept, and we can expect to see the first one open in Washington, D.C., this summer.
It's still unclear, however, exactly what ShopHouse will serve, other than Southeast Asian food. Here's the blurb of explanation from the press release:
The ShopHouse menu will pair the bold and complex flavors of southeast Asia with fresh, sustainably raised ingredients; grilled and braised meats, a variety of fresh vegetables, aromatic herbs, spicy sauces, and an array of garnishes. Customers will move along a service line and customize their meal according to flavor preference and diet, in a format similar to the one that has become the hallmark of Chipotle's success.
That release also gives special emphasis to the food of Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam, and notes that Chipotle's focus on sustainability will also be applied in the new restaurant. And though the company is still keeping the specific details of the food close to the vest, we've heard rumors that ShopHouse's customizable menu will be based on rice or noodle bowls.
No word yet on how fast the restaurant will become a chain -- or when it might come to Denver.
