Could a new machine make servers obsolete? That was the question posed by Kyle Garratt's most recent In the Weeds column, which contemplated a future in which the automated E La Carte would be taking your order -- and replacing servers like Garratt.

I find it telling that Mr. Garratt leaves out the most important feature of these devices: protection against so-called "servers" walking off with my credit card and skimming the magstripe out of sight.Sorry, you're just going to have to find some other way to supplement your meager income in the not-so-distant future...
