Frank's Kitchen now serving fresh comfort food in Whittier

Frank's Kitchen is now open just west of City Park.

"We've gotten a very positive response," says Dina of Frank's, a breakfast and lunch joint that opened May 19. "I think the neighborhood is glad to see some activity here. We want to be a neighborhood restaurant and they've been very supportive."

Frank owned his own contracting business for years, and Dina was a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News, then wrote for Nation's Restaurant News. When they decided to get into the food business, they thought about a food truck -- but then last December found the spot at 2600 High Street.

The space, which once held an Asian joint, has a modest dining room with a handful of tables and a take-out window. The menu features such comforting fare as breakfast burritos and burgers, an array of coffee drinks and sandwiches that range from Vienna all-beef hot dogs (Frank is from Chicago) to a KC Reuben dog. The brisket and jerk chicken have been early favorites, according to Dina.

"We're doing a variety of comfort food, diner stuff," explains Frank. "We're a little bit eclectic, but it's all stuff I like to eat. The basic thing is we like to cook everything from scratch. We have our own smoker and a lot of the stuff like the jerk chicken or the brisket is like a two-day process."

Frank's is open every day except Saturday; Monday through Thursday it stays open until 7 p.m. so that diners can pick up to-go food for dinner; the restaurant also offers delivery and catering. For more information, call 303-296-3838.
