The Great Food Truck Race rolls into Denver this weekend

Thelimetruckoc.jpg
The Lime Truck, from Orange Country, is one of eight trucks competing in season two's The Great Food Truck Race, which rolls into Denver this weekend

Pray to the weather gods that Denver is blessed with balmy breezes this weekend, because the food trucks competing in season two of The Great Food Truck Race, the primetime Food Network series hosted by star chef Tyler Florence, are motoring into town on Saturday and possibly Sunday (along with a flurry of camera crews) -- and it's going to be street-food nirvana.

The eight-truck, six-week, six-city, cross-country culinary jaunt is all about which food truck warriors sling -- and sell -- the most grub through whatever means possible, and it behooves them to sell a shitload, because the truck that's still rolling at the end of it all pockets a cool $100,000, while the other trucks hit the road...home.

We don't have confirmation on the exact whereabouts of the trucks pulling up curbside, but we can tell you that come Saturday and Sunday, when they're in town, they'll be parked at various locations throughout the city -- everywhere from markets to bars to pet adoption centers -- often joined by our own local food trucks. And if the stops in other cities are any indication of what we can expect, then be prepared for everything from rallies to circus performers.

The trucks battling it out for street-food supremacy include Hodge Podge (Cleveland, Ohio); Korilla BBQ (New York); Roxy's Grilled Cheese (Boston, Massachusetts); Devilicious Food Truck (San Diego, California); The Lime Truck (Irvine, California); Seabirds (a vegan food truck from Orange County, California); and Cafe con Leche (Van Nuys, California).

We'll keep you updated as we learn more, and I'll be running around this weekend, from truck to truck, to bring you back all the food lust on Monday morning.

If only Food Network knew how UNSUPPORTIVE the city government is of food trucks. Maybe this will change their minds & help them see the value in street food.

I hope someone is going to be tweating the locations. Last weekend in SLC the foodie community really came together in droves to support the event. I hope the same will be true for Denver. I don't quite feel the frenzie yet in Denver....it was definitely at frenzie level is SLC.

I am SO excited for Denver for Mother's Day weekend! There are a few great trucks coming from the LA area. One of them is the Cafe Con Leche Cuban Food Truck! Their food is fantastic and they have kick*s cuban coffee, too!

They also recently opened a cafe in Sherman Oaks on Ventura Blvd.People run there at 3am to get their strong delicious coffee! They also have SO many Twitter fans who are always begging for the truck to go to their jobs!SO, be sure to try out the fantastic food from the Cafe Con Leche truck this weekend! They aren't allowed to tweet, so as soon a the Denver locals start tweeting, we'll know where they are located!Their team is made up of Chef Frankie Tosta-Monch from Miami. His recipes are wonderful! Then, his partner is Gabriel Martinez, who founded the first Latin shopping Network in the US.He makes the BEST authentic Cuban coffee!

AND, their third member is beautiful Cuban-American actress Maria Felipe. She is from Miami, but lives and works in Los Angeles now.She is a talented actress and experienced TV host!AND, Maria was the FIRST FEMALE LATIN BOXING ANNOUNCER IN THE US!And, she interviewed many great boxing legends, including Oscar De La Hoya!

You can check out Maria's website at: www.mariafelipe.com and you can contact her through her website.I wish I could be there this weekend! As soon as the news hits the Twitterverse, I'll be tweeting!SO, please follow me at: twitter.com/joanblair

I am from Orange County and am routing for our local trucks: The Lime Truck and Seabirds, both excellent; I promise. I saw in the Salt Lake City press that you can reach Jason Quinn of The Lime Truck at 949-307-2003 if you want to know where they're going to be or to make suggestions. (The Lime Truck, by the way, was Orange County's No. 1 (New) Restaurant in 2010 and won "Best of the Fest" in the 50-truck OC Foodie Fest in 2010. Jason makes a new menu every day in Iron Chef manner using only the freshest possible, seasonal ingredients. No matter what limitations the show puts on him, you can count on him to come up with something that will blow you away. Seabirds is also very good. It's vegan, but it may convert you. The things chef Stephanie Morgan can work wonders with such ingredients as jackfruit and avocado and she is also committed to local, fresh ingredients. Please support the OC trucks!

Um...if it's in the race, it was absent in Denver -- and in all the cities before Denver.

jandbco and others! keep up with this weekend's events at DenverStreetFood.com, and follow the twitter list we've got linked there. In addition, I'll be retweeting from the vendors I know are working with competitors - @snarf_sd. The primary event will be taking place (most likely) at Civic Center Park's Cinco de Mayo event. The Food Network is rumored to be working with CCP to get the trucks inside the event. Not sure if it will happen, but that's the latest we've got at DenverStreetFood.com!
