Upslope Brewing toasts its new tap room and cans a new beer
Upslope Brewing has a big summer on tap.
The Boulder brewery has just tripled the size of its taproom -- a grand reopening party takes place on Thursday, May 12 -- and will add a fourth canned beer, Upslope Craft Lager, to its all-can lineup in the next two weeks.
"We wanted to complement our existing portfolio," Upslope co-owner Matt Cutter says of the lager. "We have been tweaking this recipe for a year now, and we think we've found the perfect combination of ingredients for a summer beer. We're brewing it yesterday and today."
Upslope currently cans its Pale Ale, IPA and Brown Ale, but the brewery also has other beers on tap, including the popular Foreign Stout, which could be canned as a seasonal beer later this year or next, Cutter says.
There will be eight beers on tap at the grand reopening on Thursday, which will start when the tap room opens at 2 p.m.; it had closed for four weeks for the expansion and renovation. In addition to getting more space, Upslope built a new concrete bar and added tables, stools, dartboards and an area for live music. A electro-funk rock band called the Acorn Project will play at 6:30 p.m.
Upslope has also installed a beer engine and will begin a new firkin program, offering cask-conditioned beers a couple times a week. The expansion made room for the brewery's new fermenters, which have increased its capacity by 75 percent.
