While Chinook Tavern moves into Village Center Station, a different Chinook has blown into south Denver

The news that Cafe Berlin is moving to the 16th Street Mall reminded us that it was time to check in on the status of another longtime German restaurant, Chinook Tavern. When the Georg family closed their restaurant at 265 Detroit Street back in June 2008, they promised that Chinoook would reopen that fall in the "European Village" stretch of shops and restaurants at the heart of the Landmark project in Greenwood Village.

But after numerous delays, plans for a Chinook in Landmark blew away -- and instead the new restaurant, which will be run by Clemens and Markus Georg, has landed at Village Center Station, 6380 South Fiddler's Green Circle in Greenwood Village. An under-construction website promises that the under-construction restaurant should be ready this spring.

"Our kitchen has been completed," the family reports. "Drawing from his European training and adding his own creative touch, executive chef Markus and his team are developing a new menu inspired by classic European cuisine."

Look for a private dining room as well as a coffee bar at this new Chinook.

And don't be confused by another Chinook that just blew into town. Chinook Bar & Grill celebrated its grand opening last weekend; it took over the E-Z Pickin's space at 1950 South Holly Street.
